When I was in beautiful Santa Ana, I took a guided walking tour with a local named Hector. His arms and legs were covered in tattoos. He openly shared that police had been skeptical of him, especially during the height of the mass incarcerations from 2019 to 2021. Even so, he was clear that tourists with tattoos do not need to worry. Tattoos are allowed in El Salvador, and police generally pay little attention to foreigners.
