How to Get From Pristina to Prizren

With Pristina hosting Kosovo’s lone commercial airport and Prizren garnering the most buzz online as a tourist destination, almost everyone who travels to Kosovo will pass through these two cities. As a result, getting from Pristina to Prizren is one of the most common questions travelers have about getting around Kosovo.

Fortunately, traveling between the two cities is relatively straightforward. Kosovo is a small country, and the journey doesn’t take long. You essentially have two options: car or bus, as Kosovo currently has no passenger train service.

Here’s everything you need to know about getting from Pristina to Prizren, including which option makes the most sense for your trip.

Pristina to Prizren by Car

Renting a car in Pristina gives you the most flexibility for the 90-minute drive to Prizren. You don’t have to worry about bus schedules or random stops along the way. Rental cars in Kosovo are also very affordable. I rented a car during my 10-day trip to Kosovo and it was €30 per day.

However, we didn’t actually get the car until we were in the smaller city of Gjakova. Not only do you not need a car to explore Pristina, but you don’t need a car to get from Pristina to Prizren either. Buses are so frequent and affordable that renting a car for this route doesn’t make much sense. A car becomes much more worthwhile if you’re planning to explore other parts of Kosovo or want the flexibility to stop along the way.

The easiest way to get from Pristina to Prizren is by taking one of the frequent buses. All buses leave from the Main Pristina Bus Station, which is not far from the main touristic hotspots of Pristina.

You can find bus schedules on Gjirafa Travel’s website and even purchase tickets in advance online. Per the website, there are up to 43 daily buses between Pristina and Prizren, so you have no shortage of options. That said, most locals simply buy their tickets on the bus. At some point during the trip, someone walks down the aisle to collect payment. A one-way ticket from Pristina to Prizren costs just €5. Unless you’re traveling on a busy summer weekend or Friday afternoon, you probably won’t need to book your ticket in advance.

Our coach bus was comfortable and even had a bathroom, though it didn’t look to be working. It might be smart to take it easy on the coffee and soda so you don’t have to worry about that!

How Long Does it Take to Get From Pristina to Prizren?

Pristina and Prizren are separated by less than 100 kilometers, with the journey typically taking around 1.5 hours by car or bus. You can easily make it a day trip if you need to get from Pristina, though Prizren definitely warrants at least one night (I’d recommend two).

In-Summary: Pristina to Prizren

Prizren Kosovo

Getting around Kosovo is quite easy thanks to extensive bus coverage and the sheer tiny size of the country. The Pristina to Prizren route is no exception. We simply bought tickets an hour before the bus we wanted to take left, headed to the bus station, and were at our hotel in Prizren less than two hours later.
